In life, the most powerful realisation we can make is to realise we have more to give.
Whether it be in your personal life, in your relationships, in your career, in your fitness or in your health, when you realise you have more to give than you currently allow yourself, it is then that you become limitless.
Our minds are far more powerful than we often allow them to be and because of this we limit ourselves from what we can and cannot do, obtain or achieve.
We talk ourselves out of things before we even entertain the idea of trying them. When we see something that looks difficult or out of reach, regardless of how much we would like it, our mind automatically tells us to ‘stop being ridiculous, there is no way you could do or have that’ and you subconsciously agree and move on.
Think back to when you were a kid and you wanted the fanciest sports car you could think of. As a kid, you didn't know the value of it, you didn't understand what it took to get it, so your brain didn't tell you that you couldn't have it. You probably spoke about that sports car every day and the adults around you would laugh at you for dreaming so big and tell you that you ‘just didn’t get it.’ Well, fast forward a few years, you now ‘get it’, you know the value of that sports car and because of this you have listened to society and those around you and you have settled to the idea that ‘it’s out of reach’ and you ‘could never have that’.
Well realistically, why is it out of reach? What in this world is actually stopping you from getting it? In this example it is probably the fact you don’t actually want it anymore but for some of us who do, it is the thoughts of 'you can’t afford it’ or 'it’s too hard to earn that kind of money’ that leads you to give up without even trying.
While for most of us, right now in our life it may be true that it is too expensive for our budget, but that just means we can’t afford it right now, it does not mean it is not possible to obtain. It is only you telling yourself that it’s not possible that is stopping you from working towards it. It then becomes a dream you gave up on because of some bullshit excuse you kept telling yourself as to why you cant have it. This goes for any dream or goal you may have. If you truly want something and believe in it bad enough, you will find a way to obtain it. The problem usually is, although we want it, we automatically tell ourselves we cant do it and so we stop believing in it.
Most decisions in life are based on this mindset. We let the idea of 'I can't' limit our capabilities. Without thinking, the minute we see something that looks beyond our capabilities our mind automatically tells us we 'can't do that' or 'that's too hard I could never do that' and so we turn away from it. We have automatically limited our capabilities, without even attempting it.
It is important to remember there was a time when we could not walk or talk, we could not drive a car or count to 10. As a child and adolescent we spend our time learning how to do these things, when we are younger we test our limits and push our boundaries, we are ok with asking ‘how?’ rather than saying ‘I can’t.’ Yet as we grow older, we have some false understanding that by the time we are an adult we are expected to know everything and be able to do everything and therefore what we cant do by now is out of reach.
This thought is usually placed on us by society and the mentality of go to school to get good grades, to get a good job that you can do for the rest of your life. This mentality automatically limits our capabilities. It allows us to believe we have to choose the next 60 plus years of our lives based on the results of one lot of exams, and if you chose to change that path mid way through your adult life, society crushes you with negative comments. ‘Oh look, Bob quit his job and went back to study something new! ..and did you see his new sports car!? He is obviously having a mid life crisis!!’. Well, no, maybe he just realised there is more to life than the path he was forced to take when he was 18 because that's what his grades at the time allowed.
Our minds do not have an expiry, as long as we are breathing and moving, we are capable of learning and doing. Whatever it is you may want to do, stop telling yourself you can’t. Do not be afraid to try something new. Set your goals and take action. It doesn't matter how many times you fall or fail all that matters is that you stand back up and keep trying, keep learning and keep pushing your limits.
When your mind truly believes it, there are no limits. Go out and pursue your dreams and achieve your goals. Because really, what's stopping you?
