Carbs For Breakfast

You've probably heard the comments "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" or if you're like me, you've been told it on repeat since you were a child. Well, I hate to admit it, but mum was right!

After a night of not eating, when we wake our body is in a fasted state and our insulin sensitivity is higher than normal. This is because our body has been using the glucose in our blood and the glycogen stored in our liver to maintain body functions throughout the night.

‘Refuelling’ in the morning gives the body and brain energy to tackle the day and also provides more of an opportunity for any excess energy be burnt off before the evening where our body goes back into rest mode and any excess fuel is commonly stored as fat due to inactivity.
